How to Go Back to School

Starting school can be difficult, especially after an activity-filled summer. I get it, going on vacation, hanging out with friends, and most importantly, no homework. Although, it can be just as fun as summer. Here's how to ease the burden of returning to school with some simple tips.

The First Day

School is not known for being a fun part of your day-to-day routine. A bunch of people despise school, while others can find joy in going to school. A huge factor in feeling good about going to school is to start your year right. This would mean how your first day goes. Contrary to popular belief, this day is not based on luck. Sure, spilling something on your shirt right before school starts can be a downer, but with a positive attitude, a great first day is possible. My go-to advice to give to people is to stay positive. This applies to all aspects of life, not just going back to high school. Maintaining a healthy mindset toward life is always going to benefit you. So, my biggest piece of advice is to be positive. Nobody likes a negative Nancy. Your positive energy will infect others and they will want to be around you 25/7!

Also, do your best to make the most of your school or classes. Maybe you're a freshman and you're having a hard time adjusting to your new high school. I felt like my high school was so different from middle school, and I had trouble liking it at first. This definitely did not help my transition into high school. What helps is to realize that things change for the better! It may be scary and hard to adjust, but ultimately, it's worth it. Give high school a chance.

On your first day, a big element of having the best day is to be confident. For example, wear your favorite outfit; do your hair; whatever makes you feel the best. Try not to let others put you down; you do you!

Not only should you make yourself feel good, but you should make others feel good as well. This leads to complimenting others. (Bonus: you can make new friends or give others a good impression of you).

Be nice

Being nice should always apply to your daily life. Being nice can get you places, whether it's getting you more friends, or getting a college recommendation from your teachers! This will also make you seem friendlier and more likable (not that you aren't).

Enjoy School

Make the little things count. When you see your school friends that you haven't reconnected with all summer, make the most out of it! Catch up, debrief, and savor the moment. Even high school's "unenjoyable" parts can be so much fun. Like sitting in your most boring class, while it may be hard not to fall asleep, you might make a new friend! You can turn to the person next to you and make a relatable comment.

Even if something like this does not happen, you can complain to your friends at lunch, and complaining is always fun.

Be prepared

Being prepared is super important for having a good back-to-school experience. If you come to class with no materials, you'll feel left out, and certainly, your teachers will not be thrilled that you don't have your materials. Conclusion

To conclude, just try your best to make the most of going back to school! Take in the awkward icebreakers in class, and make new friends!
