Summer break. It is a time to relax, rewind, and forget about your studies. While this sounds quite dreamy, it is not ideal for a student who wants to attend a top-notch college. Perhaps even an Ivy! Here's the best way to use your summer in a way that's productive and efficient.

What are you looking for?

First, it's important to identify how badly you want to work this summer. If you want to fill your college applications with loads of achievements and activities, stick around. However, if not, then it is understandable. Not everyone wants to go down that path, which is perfectly fine. Just know, that everyone's process is different, and it is possible to attend a great college without having an action-packed summer!

The benefit of doing all sorts of things over the summer is that colleges will see how determined and hardworking you are. Giving up your summer (or at least part of it) will prove to them that you will work just as hard if admitted into their school. Not only this but doing these things could teach you many lessons! Whether that be an internship or a first job, the experiences that you deal with are important beyond college applications.

Different summer activities

Now, depending on who you are and what you are interested in, summer activities may vary. There are a plethora of projects that you could partake in, but if it does not interest you, then please refrain from taking it up. If you choose to do something that you aren't genuinely interested in, then it is no use. Do something that you love!

A few ideas that could spark creativity in you are,

  • Passion Projects (a project in which you do something you are passionate about. starting a non-profit is one of the most influential and respected passion projects out there!)

  • A Summer Job

  • An Internship (oftentimes, you would need to apply to a summer internship before your school year ends, however, there are certainly exceptions!)

  • Pre-College Program ( especially helps when you are looking to apply to a dream college)

  • Volunteer Work

  • SAT/ACT Prep

These are just a few hobbies that could interest you. Please always remember to do what feels best and makes you happy!

Conclusion

To summarize, summer activities are a great way to fill up your summer days with tasks and meaningful memories. However, it's important to enjoy your summer as well! After all, everyone deserves a break after a long school year. Enjoy yourself! You've earned it.
