Don't know what supplies to buy when starting high school? Here are some helpful tips to navigate you through your supplies shopping.

Don't overdo it

You might feel compelled to buy a ton of fresh, new materials, but less is truly more. If you're afraid of not having the right things to start your new year, don't worry. On your first day, your teachers should tell you what to bring to their classes.

What's not worth my money?

As I said, you don't necessarily need all the things that you feel you need. For example, you don't need glue, glue sticks, rulers, markers, scissors, and colored pencils. These supplies are more traditionally used during your time in younger grades. Also, in my case, I have not found myself using any of the following; staples, pins, tape, and index cards. (I also hardly ever use individual sheets of paper). Now, this is relevant to me, but some of these tools could help someone.

What should I be buying?

This is a very general idea of what you should be getting to start high school. Some people learn differently and need different materials/ amounts of them. Below will be a list of essentials for back-to-school.

  • A backpack

  • A pencil case

  • A binder (1 inch - 1 1/2 inch)

  • College-ruled notebooks (2 recommended)

  • Folders (2 recommended)

  • A pack of pencils

  • A good eraser (Pentel Hi-Polymer Block Eraser recommended)

  • A calculator (TI-30XS recommended)

  • Personal Items (lotion, lip balm, charger, perfume/cologne, body care, oral care, feminine products, etc.)

Conclusion

Ultimately, buy what fits you best! This is simply a guide if you have no idea what to buy, like how I was. We hope you have the best start to school (especially because you're starting high school!)
